Smite World Championship Announced Next Year with $600,000 Prize Pool

By on

Have you tried playing Smite? Perhaps after reading this news, you will. Game developer Hi-Rez Studios, the creators of Smite, has just announced that the fairly new game will already be having its first major tournament. The name of the event will be SMITE World Championship or SWC. And don?t be surprised, the prize pool sits at a staggering $600,000. Not bad?for a 3-month old game. But it doesn?t end there as this will continue to go up once the community starts to contribute, just like Valve?s The International Dota 2 tournament.

In the announcement on their website, the event will feature the top Smite teams from North America, Europe, Latin America, and China. NA, Europe, and China will have two representatives each while Brazil and (Spanish Speaking) South America will both have one.

The details of the qualifiers for Europe and North America have already been given.

For Europe, a $50,000 LAN event will be held on July 26, at the ESL Studio in Cologne, Germany. Four teams emerging from the 10-week EU SWC On-line Qualifying Series will be featured in this event. The SMITE European Championship will be held on November 15 and 16 at the same venue and will feature the top six teams from Europe, with the final two teams going to the World Championship.

North America will follow the same format as well. The $50,000 LAN event will be held on August 9, at the Kessel D. Stelling Ballroom in Atlanta, within the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Complex. The SMITE North American Championship will be held on November 22 and 23 at the previously said venue with the final two teams proceeding to the World Championship.

Qualifiers for China and Latin America will be announced on a later date, so stay tuned.

The SWC main event will be held January 9-11, 2015, at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre in Atlanta, U.S.A.

Smite is an online mythological-themed Action-MOBA game that was developed by Hi-Rez Studios. It was released in Europe and North America last March and is one of the fastest growing games in the MOBA genre.
