Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso (Your Lie in April) is another teen live-action drama produced by Toho Studios. Based on the manga series of the same title, author Naoshi Arakawa (Sayonara Football) tells a story about a piano prodigy named Kosei Arima. As a young boy, under the overly strict and abusive watch of his mother, Arima won numerous piano competitions and was so accurate that he was called a human metronome (a device that measures the number of beats in music). Although he was considered a pure genius, he was still an emotionless musician.
After the death of his mother, Arima went through a mental break-down during a recital. It was also revealed that his mother?s passing had also caused him to have a hard time hearing the sound of his piano. Two years later, resigned to never touch a piano again, he serendipitously crossed paths with violinist Kaori Miyazano, who tries to stir up Arima?s passion for music and bring him back to a world full of life, color and spirit. Together with their other friends, Tsubaki and Watari, just as when Arima begins to find his music, they soon discover Kaori?s secret.
The character Kaori Miyazano is a free-spirited, frail, teen girl. As a musician, she always tries to inject her personality in her music – deviating from the original interpretation of the score. Kaori ?always performs passionately and played music the way she wanted to. As a child, she was weak, sickly and frequented the hospital. Kaori hid her illness from Arima and friends. Later into the story she writes a farewell letter to Arima before her major surgery. Will she live through this? Let?s find out.
Set to screen in Japan this September 10, the Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso or Your Lie in April live-action movie is directed by Takehiko Shinjo, also known for the movie Heavenly Forest. The main cast members are as follows:
