Shenmue 3 News: HD Remaster Domain Hints Possible Release Before Shenmue III

By on

It seems like the developers are taking their time with Shenmue 3, one of the most anticipated games of 2017. While that will take some time, it seems like Sega will be re-releasing Shenmue and Shenmue 2 in a collection. There has been plenty of requests from fans for an HD collection and it seems like it’s finally coming.

Since Sega will be releasing the third game in the series, it makes sense to re-release the first two games. There are a number of gamers who haven’t played the first two games, since they came out on the Dreamcast. Either way, it’s good news for veteran fans of the first two installments and curious younger fans.

Domain Registered

According to Gematsu, Sega Europe has registered the domain for something called Shenmue HD. Clicking on the website leads to a blank page, but the fact that it’s clickable shows that something is there. The collection should come out on PS4 and PC, since Shenmue 3 is coming out on those systems.

It will be interesting to see how these games hold up compared to more modern titles. Remember, these games were released during the Dreamcast era, so the visuals will need some cleaning up. HD re-releases aren’t always in high demand, but these games have definitely been wanted by fans.

Shenmue 3 Demo?

Some fans might want something extra to come with the Shenmue HD collection and Sega could add a demo for Shenmue 3. At the least, the game could have some information regarding the ridiculously successful Kickstarter game. Here is hoping fans can see some really fun extras regarding the third game, or even some commentary on the two Dreamcast titles.

The first two Shenmue games are actually fairly influential, despite their obscurity. Both games helped make the open-world genre interesting. They also introduced quick-time events in video games for better or worse.

Shenmue 3 is currently being developed after it was fully funded through Kickstarter. The game ended up being one of the most funded titles in Kickstarter history. The game will be available on PS4 and PC, with the latter soon getting pre-orders.
