Shenmue 3 is currently one of the most anticipated games of the year. When the game was announced at E3 last year, fans went ballistic even though they had to fund the third installment on Kickstarter first. This ended up being one of the most quickly funded Kickstarter projects in history, showing just how excited fans are about the game.
With E3 2016 coming next week, it would be somewhat fitting to see the game appear in the event. Some fans are even hoping that there will be a playable demo of the game, but that doesn?t appear to be the case.
On Twitter, Cedric Biscay ? the president of Shibuya Productions ? answered a fan question by stating that the game would not be playable in this year?s E3 event. Not yet, at least, since Biscay?s answer was cryptic. ?Today my answer is no,? he said.
According to GamingBolt though, Biscay?s answer might be different tomorrow or in the next few days. However, Biscay saw GamingBolt?s report and negatively reacted to it. Until Biscay or the company says anything, it seems like we won?t be seeing Shenmue 3 in this year?s event, which is a shame. Still, the developers probably want the game to be as good as possible, so if it means not being playable on E3, it should be fine.
The development time is probably needed, so fans might not be able to play the game until later this year or in 2017, which is it is scheduled to release. The company has considered releasing the first two Shenmue games as a way to let newer fans into the series and make them pick up the newest installment when it comes out, but sadly this is also unconfirmed.
Here?s hoping that fans get to see the game soon, since the Shenmue games have clearly left a mark on gamers. Despite the game being more than a decade old, the fact that Shenmue 3 was able to reach its target goal under a month is very impressive.
Shenmue 3 will be available on the PS4 and Windows PC. The game won?t be out till December 2017, so fans are in for a long wait.
