Next up in the FIBA Olympics Qualifying Tournament 2016 hosted by the Philippines will have Senegal vs. Canada happening Wednesday, July 6 in Manila. The two will be battling for the top two spots in Group A . The top two teams will advance to the crossover semifinals against the top two teams from the other group (there are only two groups – A and B). The winners will compete in the finals and the champion will qualify for Rio. It is a winner-take-all affair.

This game is the second one for Canada and the first one for Senegal. We last saw Canada winning over Turkey. This means Canada is 1-0 and Senegal is 0-0 in the tournament. A win against Senegal will secure Canada a spot in the semifinals. They are joined in their group by Turkey, Canada?s last opponent. The other group is composed of New Zealand, Philippines and France.

Canada looked good in their last game against Turkey. They won with an 8-point lead, 77-69. Cory Joseph led the Canadian offense with 21 points, 5 assists and 3 rebounds. Check out the highlights below.

Turkey ranks 8th internationally while Canada is ranked at the 26th. The latter though proved to be a little too fast for the bigger team. They certainly made use of their speed and quickness advantage to come up with crowd-pleasing plays. Canada?s youth and talent proved too much for Turkey?s solid form in that critical match.

Canada will now be facing 31st ranked Senegal. Looking on paper, they will be the favorites during this match. They arguably have more elite professional basketball experience but they too are quite young having an average age of 25 against Senegal?s average age of 28. Will their mix of experience and youthful fluidity secure them a spot in the semifinals? We shall see.
