San Andreas, the Dwayne Johnson-starrer earthquake movie that earned a massive $473 million worldwide, will be back with a sequel. The film?s Part 2 will still have Johnson, director Brad Peyton and producer Beau Flynn.
New Line has roped in writers Neil Widener and Gavin James for the second installment. Will this create the same magic as the first movie or will it be a big flop? Well, only time can give that answer.
Alexandra Daddario, Carla Gugino and Paul Giamatti, who played a seismologist and the only scientist to know how bad the earthquake would be in San Andreas, are also expected to return. Giamatti also delivered the famous line, ?The Earth will literally crack and you will feel it on the East Coast,? according to Collider.
The original flick saw Johnson, a search-and-rescue helicopter pilot, and his estranged wife played by Gugino, on a mission to save their daughter played by Daddario when earthquakes hit San Francisco and Los Angeles.
Plot details for the second movie have not been revealed yet but this time, the movie will go global by expanding the disaster locales. They will throw light on the infamous Ring of Fire ? the circles in the Pacific Ocean with fault lines and volcanoes. The scientists are of the opinion that 90 percent of the world?s earthquakes occur there.
As all of California was destroyed in San Andreas, the sequel will focus on the Pacific Rim.
With the terrific physique that Johnson has, it will be interesting to see him facing new challenges in San Andreas 2.
There isn?t a confirmed release date yet for San Andreas 2, but Johnson will be seen in many other movies including Baywatch, Rampage, Central Intelligence and Fast 8 which will also be shown in the near future.
