Samsung has been charging ahead into the mobile VR domain with full force and its actions in the past have been indicative of that. The company has given away Samsung Gear VR headsets for free in the past and partnered with Oculus as well.
According to report on Tech Radar, Samsung will further intend to move ahead in this direction and may possibly also bring out a new Gear VR device with the Samsung Galaxy Note 7. The rumors about the new offering stem from a certain listing on Zauba.
For those not in the know, Zauba is a database of Indian imports of all things tech and has become a source for information on what?s to come in the tech word since yet-to-be announced gadgets tend to show up on the site. A device with a model number SM-R323 has surfaced on the site. While there are not a lot of details about the product, the number is for a Gear VR. The current variant bears the model number SM-R322 indicating that the listing could well be pointing towards a new model.
The existing Gear VR model connects through a microUSB, however, the Note 7 is heavily rumored to feature a USB Type-C port. This could probably be a good reason for an upgrade and also if the Note 7 dimensions require some certain other changes to be made to the Gear VR.
If this does indeed materialize, then the upcoming Samsung Gear VR release date will naturally coincide with that of the Samsung Galaxy Note 7. Speculations are rife that the Note 7 will be introduced on August 2, 2016 since a Samsung Unpacked Event invite had been leaked bearing the same date. With just a few weeks to go, more concrete details should pop up in the coming days.
