Samsung has just released Galaxy 7 last March. Galaxy Note 6 is expected to be released in August. It seems that the Korean tech giant has even bigger plans for 2017. It is rumored that the company is working on a foldable touch screen phone. Upcoming Galaxy 8 might have a new kind of touch screen.
According to Sammobile, Samsung will launch five new mobiles in 2017. The Galaxy S and the Galaxy Note 7 series are supposed to have 2.5K resolution Super AMOLED display with an RGB subpixel arrangement. While Galaxy X is supposed to have a new foldable touch screen with a 4K display with diamond PenTile subpixel arrangement. This so called Galaxy X could be Galaxy 8.
Samsung demonstrated a 5.5 inch foldable display panel and a 10 inch tri-fold AMOLED display at the end of 2014.
In the end of 2015 The Korea Industry Post reported, ?Scheduling next year, Samsung Electronics will apply highly flexible cover in foldable smartphone (Project Valley) instead of Corning Gorilla Glass.?
It was also reported that the Samsung Electronics have developed new material called ?Hybrimer? in an alliance with the Solip Technology.
Moreover, Samsung already has several patents for technology that can be used inside a foldable smartphone. It indicates that Samsung is definitely going to launch a smartphone using one of these technologies.
Other than a foldable screen, the Galaxy 8 is supposed to run the next-generation Exunos 900 and the Snapdragon 830 processor. It would support 5G technology. In terms of its camera, the S8 is expected to have a 16MP or 18MP camera with larger aperture, faster focus, and brighter LED.
Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 Edge are expected to be released in the first half of 2017, according to Breathecast. Most probably on or before Mobile World Congress in Feb. 2017.
