The 2017 flagship Samsung Galaxy S8 will borrow a feature from Microsoft Windows Phone.?A leaked slide presumably from the Galaxy S8 presentation shows the South Korean manufacturer is getting ready to bring Continuum-like features to its mobile phone. The image comes from an anonymous source via All About Windows Phone.
The lone image shows a Galaxy S8 connected to a monitor with an Android symbol hovering between the two. The smartphone screen is mirrored in a tab on the monitor, and there is even an app launcher similar to Windows. There is also a wireless keyboard and mouse.
The slide has an accompanying text ?Samsung Desktop Experience,? which is what the company will call this feature. The leaked details are similar to Microsoft?s Windows Continuum which scales the mobile OS on Windows phone to a PC like when connected to a monitor.
The feature would definitely be a surprise if Samsung indeed does make it real. Following the Note 7 debacle, such productivity oriented features turn the tables in the company?s favor. Of course, this leak needs to be taken with a grain?of salt as nothing is official so far.
Galaxy S8 follows Apple iPhone
Samsung is planning to wow consumers with their 2017 flagship and will follow some of Apple?s moves. Samsung blog SamMobile reported that its upcoming device will ditch the 3.5mm headphone jack for a thinner design. In addition, the report says the Galaxy S8 will feature a USB Type-C port.
Just like Apple, the South Korean maker will debut their new wireless in-ear headphones with?the Galaxy S8. It is unclear if the new earphone will come with the smartphone or if it will be sold separately. Rumors indicate the said earphones could feature Harman Kardon audio.
Galaxy S8 Specifications
Samsung will release two flagship variants: Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus. The regular model will have a 5.1-inch screen and the larger model will have a 6-inch screen. Both smartphones will feature the dual Edge curved displays. Furthermore, Samsung is considering to bring S-Pen support to the S8 Plus model.
The Galaxy S8 will be powered by Qualcomm?s latest Snapdragon 835 chipset. Ice Universe, a prominent Samsung leaker said the S8 will?arrive with 8GB RAM and a newer UFS 2.1 flash storage chip. Earlier rumors indicated a 6GB memory bump along with larger in-built storage options.
Details on the cameras are murky, though various reports speculate a dual camera setup on the rear. There are also reports of a new selfie camera with Autofocus and flash. Pricing and release date for the Galaxy S8 are unclear at this point.
