RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 9 Winner Prediction: Now That Valentina Is Out, Who Is The Top Contender For The Crown?

Drag Race Season 9 Winner

Friday’s episode of RuPaul’s Drag Race gave us the most shocking and confusingly sad elimination yet in Season 9. Valentina, this season’s seemingly invincible fan-favorite, was sent home, leaving the remaining queens and even Ru herself stunned.

For a brief recap, RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 9 Episode 9 saw the contestants in their best looks inspired by the “club kid” culture. Shea, Valentina, and Trinity all sported jeweled masks covering their mouths. While this itself wasn’t a problem, it contributed big to Ru’s decision at the end of the episode.

During Nina and Valentina’s face off, the latter straight-up didn’t know the words to Ariana Grande’s Greedy, this week’s battle song. Even worse, Valentina tried to get away by leaving her mask on until Ru scolded her. Her failure to master the lyrics combined with her attempt to cover her way through the lip-synch battle eventually cost her chance to become America’s next drag superstar.

RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 9 Winner Prediction

No one saw it coming, considering she was the most likely queen to be crowned this season. With her elimination, the odds of those left in the running just became higher. But who among the queens is the top contender for the crown now?

Of course, everyone has their own competitive edge but we’re placing our bets on Shea Couleé. The 27-year-old drag queen from Chicago Illinois has the most wins so far. She bagged her third one last episode and has never been in the bottom two before. Previously, she fell behind Valentina (21/10 odds) as the most likely RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 9 winner, with 13/5 odds of winning.

Double Crowning Conclusion?

Now that the frontrunner is out, Shea is definitely the one to take over. But Sasha Velour, too, has a strong chance. Originally ranking third after Shea with 3/1 odds, the 29-year-old from Brooklyn now advances in the second rank, in our prediction at least. She won the challenge alongside Shea last episode and remains the performance art queen to beat. The competition between her and our frontrunner remains so close that it’s stirring rumors of double crowning.

Then again, we can’t know for sure who the lucky queen is until the show concludes next month. There is still a couple of episodes left, so there’s still a chance for the rest of the ladies to catch up. We can only play the waiting game and keep our fingers crossed for now. In the meantime, we’d like to hear who your RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 9 winner is. Let us know in the comments section below!

The next episode of RuPaul’s Drag Race airs Friday at 8 p.m. Eastern on VH1.
