Running Man has been cancelled, but SBS is still requiring cast members to be present at fan meetings. According to a recent report, even ousted mainstays Song Ji Hyo and Kim Joong Kook are scheduled to attend the events.
The rumor mill has been abuzz for weeks that SBS?s Running Man will be reformatted by network execs. Major changes will supposedly include new, younger hosts.
Song Ji Hyo, Kim Joong Kook
Reports then came out that Song Ji Hyo and Kim Joong Kook allegedly decided to leave the variety program. The news made a lot of fans sad, but some were not surprised due to rumors about the show?s upcoming new format.
However, the two?s talent agencies spoke up to shut down the initial reports. According to them, the said Running Man cast members were not duly informed about being removed.
There were even reports claiming Ji Hyo and Joong Kook decided to leave the series due to their busy schedules. This was proven false by reps who revealed that SBS?s decision resulted to a ?not so good farewell.? Spokespersons detailed that the hosts were only told that they were out of the show right before media announcements were made.
Running Man cancelled
The revelations from Ji Hyo and Joong Kook?s camps resulted to a major backlash on social media. Many called out showrunners for rudely firing the mainstays who graced the show for seven years.
Even former host Kang Gary spoke up for the first time after leaving the series last October. In an Instagram photo, he emphasized on all the hard work that the two did on the program.
With so much negativity surrounding the issue, SBS announced last weekend that Running Man will just be cancelled.
Official statement about Running Man fan meets
A lot of fans are still reeling over everything that has happened to the program. In spite of this, showrunners announced that Running Man fan meets will still push through.
Furthermore, Ji Hyo and Joong Kook will reportedly still be required to attend the events. ?The members were confirmed to have fan meetings in Asia even before the decision was made to end the show,? an SBS rep explained to Soompi.
Aside from the two ousted stars, Ji Suk Jin, Lee Kwang Soo, and Haha will be present at the five-country Asian tour. Oddly enough, the initial tour date given by the rep was March 2017. This will be a month after the show is slated to end in February.
