Rumor: Could Nintendo Unveil Mario Maker at E3?

By on

There are rumors circulating online about an unannounced game from Nintendo called Mario Maker. As the name implies, it looks to be a game that lets users create their own version of the popular Super Mario Bros. map and ?uses sprites and characters from the original Super Mario Bros. game. The game is rumored to be controlled using a stylus and would let users design and lay out custom Super Mario Bros. themed levels. It?s not yet clear what Nintendo platform this game may be available for.

The rumors started gaining traction when a rumored image leak of the construction booth for Nintendo got posted online. It featured the Mario Maker game on a stall as well as images from Animal Crossing and an image of Pikachu. These characters will be appearing in the new Super Smash Bros. game for the Wii U and the Nintendo 3DS.

When asked for a comment about the rumor, Nintendo said that they had nothing to announce about the topic.

For their upcoming E3 event, Nintendo will be holding 2 developer discussions, one for Super Smash Bros. and another for a new game for the Nintendo 3DS. Mario Maker could very well be the game that gets this slot.

For their first event, Game Director Masahiro Sakurai will discuss about Super Smash Bros. and the event will take place on June 10 from 10pm to 11:30pm ET. The game is headed to the Nintendo 3DS this summer and to the Wii U later in the year. The second event will be held on June 11 from 9pm to 10:30pm ET. Both events are invitation only events and will be held at the Los Angeles Convention Center.

Reggie Fils-Aine, President and Chief Operating Officer of Nintendo America, announced late last month that their company would not be going the traditional route for an E3 press conference for the second year in a row. The company will be hosting a Super Smash Bros tournament and they will be broadcasting a Nintendo Digital Event on Tuesday on June 10 at 12 noon ET.

The leaked image can be seen here.
