Marvel has already come a long way since the company was bought by Disney for $4 billion in 2009. Reports reveal that someone was hindering Marvel President Kevin Feige from his work to the point that he almost lost Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man. This is no longer the case as it has now been confirmed that Marvel Studios is restructuring the team.
According to THR, Feige?s ?years of frustration? comes to an end as he will no longer be reporting to Marvel Entertainment CEO Isaac ?Ike? Perlmutter after he vented his frustration to Disney CEO Bob Iger. According to Screen Rant, Ike has met the ire of several people from Marvel after he has opposed numerous major decisions from the team.
Because of Ike, Robert Downey Jr. was nearly fired from portraying Iron Man ?instead of paying him to appear in Captain America: Civil War?, Comic Book Movie reported. ?Everybody knows Ike is difficult? This has been a long time coming. Kevin has grown his entire career under Ike and now it just makes sense,? a close source to the company told THR.
According to THR, Feige will now be directly reporting directly to Horn so he won?t be hindered with his plans. The head of Marvel Television, however, will continue to report to Ike. The official spokesperson of Disney has confirmed the reorganization to THR in a statement:
?Marvel Studios is taking the next logical step in its integration with The Walt Disney Studios, joining Pixar and Lucasfilm in centralizing many of its film-related functions in Burbank, with Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige and co-president Louis D?Esposito continuing to lead the Marvel Studios team reporting to Walt Disney Studios Chairman Alan Horn.?
TV Series Will Now Be Disconnected From MCU?
According to Screen Rant, the reorganization may cause the Marvel Movies and TV show such as Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. to be disconnected. ?Marvel movie directors, writers, and producers have all told us they don?t follow what?s happening on the TV front, and with that division under different leadership than the film side- leadership Feige doesn?t want to deal with- there?s even less reason for them to work together.?
Kevin Feige is well known for bringing Marvel into success with Robert Downey Jr.?s Iron Man and up to now with Captain America: Civil War hitting theaters on May 6, 2016. Will the reorganization help improve the movies but spell disaster for the TV shows?
