Riverdale is going through a big change in Season 2. As the show announced late last month, Reggie Mantle, the character played by actor Ross Butler, will be recast for the sophomore run of the CW hit. Why? Because the Asian hottie has already become an actor in high demand.

As you may have noticed, the 26-year-old has also given life to the character of Zach on the Selena Gomez-produced Netflix series 13 Reasons Why. The show, whose second season has only been picked up recently, was apparently overlapping so much with Riverdale Season 2 that it interfered with plans for him to return as Archie’s frenemy.

While we’re sad to see Butler depart from the show, it’s a smart move to recast him since his character is also an integral part of Archie Comics. He is Riverdale’s town bully, albeit a lovable one who is always at odds with Archie (KJ Apa) or Jughead (Cole Sprouse). Now, the big question is: who will replace Butler in the role?

Here’s who we think could do justice to Reggie’s well-known bravado, arrogance, and charm.

Famously known for his roles of Minho in The Maze Runner and Dong Nguyen in Netflix’s Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, the actor has pretty much the necessary traits for Reggie. For starters, he shares the same Asian look as Butler. While he’s not as tall as the original actor, he also got the athletic physique that a stereotypical jock like Reggie needs.

The only missing thing now is the arrogance since we haven’t really seen him play a role of a pompous jerk before. But seeing his performance in his previous projects, Lee should be able to bring that to the table.

Booboo Stewart

There’s a Ross Butler vibe in this heartthrob too. The charm is undeniably there and so is the appearance of a star quarterback. Stewart has enough experience in portraying a handsome and mischievous character as well.

He famously played the role of Jay in Disney’s Descendants, who is “a thief, a con man, a handsome, quick-witted boy with charm to spare, whose lies are as beautiful and silvery as his eyes” according to the show’s wiki page. You may have seen the 23-year-old in The Twilight Saga also as shapeshifter (wolf) Seth Clearwater.

Buddy TV says Power Rangers Dino Charge star possesses the physical prowess and presence that Reggie’s role requires. While the show didn’t feature him that much in the pilot season,  “Reggie is a guy who fills up the room. He needs and gets the attention. Yoshi definitely has the capability to do this. ”

More importantly, he seems to be interested in the role by liking this suggestion on Twitter:

Ludi Lin

Lin’s portrayal of the Black Ranger in the Power Rangers movie proves he is a suitable candidate to replace Butler. His character on the film, Zack, resembles that of Reggiefilled with bravo and swagger on the exterior, but deep down has an empathetic core. While Riverdale’s jock competes with Archie in sports, they aren’t exactly enemies. We can recall Reggie had even asked Archie not to keep hurting his injured arm in the show’s earlier episodes. Lin could very well bring that lighter side to Reggie that lets us viewers root for him.

Riverdale hasn’t picked yet who will fill in Butler’s shoes. Regardless, the CW show did a good job casting the role the first time around so whichever actor it will be this time, we’re confident that he’s just as great as the original actor if not more. In the meantime, let us know your thoughts about the Riverdale 2017 cast update. Who you think should play Reggie in Riverdale Season 2?

Also, don’t miss Riverdale’s first season finale this Thursday, May 11 at 9/8c on The CW.
