Square Enix released its latest trailer for the Xbox timed-exclusive Rise of The Tomb Raider today at the Microsoft Gamescom 2015 press conference.
Rise of The Tomb Raider?was shown off at Gamescom 2015 via two gameplay trailers. The first gameplay trailer shows a fast paced stealth sequence where Lara Croft sneaks around a basecamp and creates distractions to get past enemies. She also makes openings so she can stealth kill her enemies with her dagger or arrows. The game then caps with Lara getting spotted, resulting in a frenetic action gameplay where she dodges bullets and peppers foes with ammunition.
You can watch the first trailer here:
Those wishing for Rise of The Tomb Raider to return to its roots of focusing on exploration and unearthing tombs with puzzle-solving mechanics?might?be disappointed as developer Crystal Dynamics seems to be focusing again on action and in-your-face shock factor.
The second gameplay trailer briefly shows photos of actual tombs that players can raid, then immediately switches on great looking set-pieces where Lara flails around and screams as the environment turns against her.
The developers however may be reserving the exploration sequences for gamers to freshly experience on their own as the first trailer briefly shows Geothermal Valley which is touted to allow gamers to roam a three times larger exploration space from previous Tomb Raider games. In this area, gamers can collect and hunt for resources, and even discover tombs.
Still a mass murderer?
The Tomb Raider reboot released in 2013 saw a new change in gameplay mechanics akin to the blockbuster feel of Sony?s Uncharted franchise. The reboot was well-received by critics. The cohesiveness of Lara?s personality however was scrutinized.
The Lara Croft reboot tries to show an ordinary human who is scared by what is happening around her. The game even shows Lara Croft being terrified when she first killed another person. But the game then immediately turns Croft into a killing machine as she slays countless enemies like a madman.
This latest game looks to be no different.
New Features for Lara Croft
The Tomb Raider Rising Trailer from Gamescom 2015 also shows various customizable upgrades users can give to Lara. Lara Craft can earn XP and use it to upgrade weapons and master new skills. Other features include upgradeable weapons and crafting ammunition.
Rise of The Tomb Raider will release for the Xbox One and Xbox 360 this November while the PC version will release in early 2016. The PS4 version will release in holiday of 2016.
