Fans of Rick and Morty Season 3 won?t have to wait much longer as showrunners Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon indicated a yearend release for the adult animated science fiction sitcom.
Earlier reports indicated a March 2017 release date based on the closing credits of the Season 2 Finale after one of the show?s characters, Mr. Poopybutthole, said it would take year and a half before the next season arrives.
However, according to Christian Times, during the Magic City Comic Con, the show’s creators, at the “Rick and Morty” panel, revealed that the series will be returning to Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim much sooner than March 2017.
“I think Season 3 is?we’re targeting around the end of this year … You guys do realize we’re at the beginning of this year?” Harmon teased.
Harmon also revealed that Rick and Morty Season 3 would run four episodes longer than the previous two ? bringing the total episode count to 14 instead of 10.
Meanwhile, the show creators even indicated that the cliffhanger moment in the Season 2 finale will be addressed head on when the Rick and Morty Season 3 premieres. Last season saw Earth become an official member of the Galactic Federation and Rick turning himself in to protect his family and becoming one of the imprisoned terrorists in the Galactic Federation facility.
So fans hoping for Morty to help break Rick out of the prison in Season 3 won?t have to wait much longer than the starting episodes as Harmon said, ?I don’t think anybody wants to do a third season that simply spends a whole bunch of episodes dealing with a situation that we created at the end of the second season. So I think that’s a non-spoiler way of saying things should be okay pretty quickly.?
The show creators revealed that they never intended to end Season 2 with a cliffhanger but just couldn?t figure out any resolution to make an interesting ending.
Meanwhile, Rick and Morty comic artist Giahna Pantano recently revealed a image on her twitter account which features a potential Season 3 opener. The image is of a triumphant Sanchez family along with Rick offering his ?peace between worlds? gesture and also folds in Mr. Poopybutthole and gives us the death of the hated Galactic Federation spy, Tammy, according to iDigitalTimes.
While Pantano said that the image was meant for a Rick and Morty t-shirt, fans are hoping that it may indeed prove to have something to do with the third season especially with co-creator Roiland retweeting Pantano?s interpretation of Season 3.
Rick and Morty Season 3 could possibly be released in December 2016.
