Rick and Morty fans got a first look of the forthcoming third season at the San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) panel where the show runners released a new animatic clip featuring a rather gory over-the-top scene in classic style reminiscent of the popular animated series.
But will the Adult Swim?s show premiere tonight on the Cartoon Network as promised by the IMDB? Rumors have been promising a release date of July 26 but show runners were tightlipped about it at the Comic-Con panel. The released clip was also incomplete, so it seems highly unlikely.
Speculations are rife that Rick and Morty could premiere at the end of August. As much as fans would appreciate such a move, there appears to be little to substantiate these rumors.
In fact, creators Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland had indicated otherwise saying it is difficult for the production to make the release possible within this month.
So when could Season 3 materialize? The most obvious answer seems to be the?yearend as creators previously promised or rather, a much more reasonable date would be Spring 2017 as indicated by Mr. Poopy Butthole in the last season.
Meanwhile, fans can enjoy the animated clip that debuted at the SDCC. Though it is without color or texture, the clip is still humorous as an altered Rick tries to escape a laboratory and comes across a swarm of rats. He builds a suit of the body of a rat and proceeds to kill as many rodents as he comes across them in a rather violent fashion.
The Comic-Con panel also delivered another funny video as creator Roiland, the voice of both Rick and Morty, read an actual Georgian court transcript with his characters appearing to voice the conversation. The transcripts were that of a real person going to trial for murder but still the video managed to get the crowd roaring with laughter.
In addition, the show creators teased fans about a guest star they would like to see do a voiceover in the series. Roiland indicated that he would have liked to see the late David Bowie and Gary Coleman to make it to the show, while Harmon suggested including Vin Diesel.
?I kind of want to meet Vin Diesel, and I kind of want to have a conversation with him,? Harmon said. ?He’s a big D&D fan, and I think he’d be great for the show.?
Adult Swim Games also showcased the Rick and Morty VR game at the Comic-Con. The game is titled Rick and Morty Simulator: Virtual Rick-ality and will be coming to HTC Vive. The launch date of the game hasn?t been confirmed yet.
Meanwhile, DC?s upcoming team of superheroes movie, Justice League,?also made references of Rick and Morty in their new Justice League trailer. The trailer shows a scene from ?Something Ricked This Way Comes? from the first season, where Summer goes to work for the Devil. The scene begins at the 1:17 mark when Bruce throws a Batarang at Barry Allen?s head, and the show can be seen in the background ?running on one of the screen panels.
