Apple refreshes their lineup of Retina MacBook Pro and brings more RAM and better processors
Intel launched a new model lineup for their Haswell mobile CPUs earlier this month. ?With those processors, the chipmaker has been able to boost laptop CPU speeds up to 200 MHz. Those chips have recently made their way to Apple?s updated Retina MacBook Pro lineup. Both 13? and 15? models received more RAM and faster processors.
The 13-inch, entry-level variant of the Retina MacBook Pro is equipped with 128 GB of PCIe-based flash storage and a 2.6 GHz dual core Intel Core i5 processor; prices start at $ 1,299. For the same price, its previous version has 4 GB RAM, but this new model now boasts of 8 GB worth of RAM.
Another 13? model priced at $ 1,499 has the same innards but has?a larger 256 GB SSD storage. It?s furnished with the same Intel Core i5 but runs at 2.8 GHz. This top-end 13-inch Retina Macbook Pro also has a more generous serving of flash storage at 512 GB and an 8 GB RAM. Both 13? variants received the integrated Iris Graphics chipset from Intel.
Meanwhile, the two 15-inch models both received processor speed boosts. The base model now supports Turbo Boost speeds of up to 3.4 GHz and the upgraded variant can fire up to 3.7 GHz. The upgraded 15-inch model is still powered by an NVIDIA GeForce 750M that comes with 2 GB worth of VRAM.
Apple last updated the Retina MacBook Pro in October of last year where it first integrated the Crystalwell-based Iris Graphics from Intel to the said machines. You can refer to the table below for a quick glance of the specs comparison between the old and new versions of the Retina MacBook Pro.
