Where is Resident Evil 7? Last October, Capcom told fans to stay tuned for updates regarding the next installment in the classic survival horror franchise. Now, with the end of the first month of 2016 almost here, we still haven?t gotten any news on when the game might release.
“We?re currently not at a state to talk about it? but please stay tuned,” said Resident Evil executive producer Masachika Kawata last year. Rumors have been swirling for years that Capcom would reveal Resident Evil 7 at E3, but they?ve been proven false time and time again. Could this year finally be the time for Capcom to revitalize one of their flagship franchises?
The series is certainly at a low point following the disappointing Resident Evil 6, which fans criticized for focusing too much on gunplay and huge set pieces rather than the atmosphere and tension of previous games.
Other recent entries like Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City and the upcoming Umbrella Corps also have a heavy action influence to them. Kawata addressed concerns regarding the franchise shifting from its horror roots in the same interview, saying,?Since there?s been more spinoff titles, I can see how it can be perceived in such a way. And of course I believe that we should produce titles that bring out the horror. I?m thinking about it and also preparing for it.?
Meanwhile, fans eager for a survival horror do have the recently announced Resident Evil 2 remake to look forward to. However, that title is still pretty far off.
