While the sneaker culture is predominantly built around NBA basketball stars as brands like Nike and Under Armour continue to roll out signature lines from the likes of Kobe Bryant and Stephen Curry, this week will see an NFL star release his line of signature shoes. Reebok is set to debut the JJ1, a new training shoe that it developed with Houston Texans? defensive back, J.J. Watt.
The 27-year-old, a four-time Pro Bowl selection and a three-time Defensive Player of the Year is known for his extensive workout regimen; and, his unique workout methods have gained a great deal of attention over the course of his career. His signature training shoe, the JJ1, is therefore designed to handle diverse workout routines, both on the field and the gym.
The athletic label and the NFL star announced last month the launch date of the JJ1, which is on July 15. The shoe will be sold via reebok.com, at Academy stores and other select retailers for $99.
The red and white combination sneaker introduces Reebok?s latest cushioning innovation, Liquid Foam, which provides rapid reaction with every impact, reports SneakerNews.
It also features a raised topline midsole to keep the foot locked in, an outsole with multidirectional traction to provide the strong and dynamic grip required for agility workouts.
Up the top, the FlexCage technology in the midfoot provides a greater locked-down feel, and a second cage is integrated into the toe for protection during jumping and pushing exercises.
During the launch event of the Reebok JJ1 in New York City, Watt said that designing the shoe, which almost took a year to complete, was a strenuous task.
?I?ve trained in many different shoes throughout my career, but there was never one that I felt was clearly the best shoe to get the job done,? Watt said in a statement. ?So I decided to build one, and with the help of some great designers, I am proud to say that we have created the best training shoe I?ve ever worn. We spent over a year making sure that this shoe would perform at the highest level on any surface for any activity.?
The JJ1 will be available on Reebok.com and select retailers nationwide on July 15, 2016, for $99.99.
In related sneakers news, other shoes launching this week are new colorways of the Adidas NMD City Sock which sees an all black pair, while the Adidas Ultra Boost Uncaged released three different colorways of the popular new shoes with two of them having colored boost midsoles.
