Red Widow vs. Black Widow

Across the Marvel universe, numerous women have taken on the disguise of the Black Widow, including the most notable Natasha Romanoff, member of Earth?s mightiest heroes. The Black Widow can relax on the big screen all she wants, but it?s not too long before she?ll be joined by an unexpected company.

Reports from io9 have stated that the real identity of the Red Widow is still being kept under wraps, but it is revealed that this marvel character surprisingly chose her role as the Red Widow, unlike Natasha Romanoff who was forced to enroll in the Black Widow program. Other details shared by The Mary Sue included a photo of the Red Widow holding a pair of what may be called as electric sabres, much like the swords used in fencing except the electricity which could instantly kill you of course.

Margaret Stohl, writer of the Beautiful Creatures series, shared her thoughts on the new hero?by Marvel and explains the Red Widow character and her role in the new novel. ?The Red Widow is a powerful new female superhero for the Marvel universe. In many ways, she?s the opposite of Black Widow ? she actually chooses to become the Red Widow ? but both Widows share a mysterious bond and a history, and will change the course of each other?s lives, moving forward.

?And of course, this is just the beginning for this enigmatic and deadly new character. Red Widow?s story first emerges within the pages of ?Mockingbird: S.H.I.E.L.D. 50th Anniversary? #1, and will then be featured in my upcoming (prose) novel, ?Black Widow: Forever Red.? I couldn?t be prouder of both Widows ? and of Marvel Comics, for being so supportive of the two of them,? Stohl said from The Mary Sue exclusive.

Catch the first appearance of the Red Widow character in ?Mockingbird: S.H.I.E.L.D. 50th Anniversary? #1, which will be out in September 2.
