If the buzz is to be believed, Rebecca Fegurson who will soon be seen in Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation has been approached for Captain Marvel.
According to IGN,?even though rumors of her being approached are doing the rounds, there is no confirmation about the fact that the studio has actually made an offer or is even in talks with Ferguson for the film.
Ferguson first caught people’s attention for her Golden Globe-nominated title role in British TV series The White Queen before her star-making turn as agent Ilsa Faust in this summer’s Mission: Impossible sequel. She was recently up for the female lead in Gambit, but committed to starring in the big screen adaptation of The Girl on the Train instead.
According to another article,?when Marvel hosted a media and fan event last year to unveil the Marvel Cinematic Universe?s Phase 3 schedule of films, several long-awaited characters were announced to be getting their own movies; Doctor Strange, Black Panther, and Captain Marvel. Out of these and the upcoming sequels to established properties, Captain Marvel is the only project without its star cast.
In an interesting observation made by Slashfilm, apparently it was Marvel?s CEO Ike Perlmutter who blocked efforts to create a Marvel film centered on a female character. We wonder if he is being actively involved in the casting of Captain Marvel too.
In the past there have been rumors of Emily Blunt and Ronda Rousey being approached for the same role have done the rounds too. However seems like there was no truth to those stories.
Considering the fact that the film will only release in 2018, Marvel Studio has ample time to finalise the actress then want to cast for Captain America.
