PS5 and Next Xbox Console News: The PS4 And Xbox One Are The Last Video Game Consoles From Sony And Microsoft?

By on

Do you think both a PS5?and a successor to Xbox One will still be made? Will there still be a next generation of consoles aside from the upcoming Nintendo NX? An analyst as well as a head from the gaming industry has talked about what we can expect in the future.

No More PS5 and Xbox Successor

Video game analyst Michael Pachter has recently predicted that the PS4 and the Xbox One will be the last generation of consoles despite both of them selling well, DualShockers reported. ?This is the last real console cycle, I don?t mean that Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo will go bankrupt and shut down ? they will not,? Pachter predicted.

Pachter said this will be the last console cycle because the install base of gamers will no longer be as big as it was before. ?The Wii U is going to sell 20 million units compared to 100 million for the Wii. The PlayStation 4 is going to sell 120 million or 130 million ? that?s great. The Xbox One will sell 100 million to 110 million ? that?s great. Add it all together and it?s 260 million units, maybe, and the last cycle was 270 million.

Sony Debunks Claims

According to Forbes, Head of Sony?s worldwide studios Shuhei Yoshida expressed his disagreement with Pachter?s predictions. Yoshida said that predictions can change ?dramatically?: ?We look at all of these analyst reports, and every year, from the same company, the forecast changes hugely, because of the things that happen in the year before? Consoles were announced dead for the longest time. Even at the time when PlayStation One was being worked on, some analyst said that PC games would dominate in the future and there would be no place for home consoles.?

So how will Sony cope with Pachter?s alleged low console install base hindrance that will prevent companies from creating new consoles in the future? ?Every time these things are proven wrong, as long as we have passionate people wanting to continue to play on game consoles, we will try hard to continue, and even make it bigger for the future,? Yoshida said.
