PS Plus subscribers are probably still grinding their teeth right now due to the lacklustre free games lineup for May. Comparing to February’s somewhat awesome offerings, the lineup for May took a nose dive for the worse. Now, subscribers are hoping for redemption as they dream of what they want included in the June listing.
Last month on the PS4, the PS Plus free games list was dominated by indie titles such as Abzu and Alienation. While Telltale’s Tales from the Borderlands may be considered a AAA title, some critics may beg to differ as the game has received quite a mix of reviews to date.
To cap it off, the offerings for the Playstation 3 were not that great either. Blood Knights and Port Royale 3: Pirates and Merchants both have received below average reviews in the past.
God of War 3 Remastered
Top of the list on the PS Plus free games for the PS4 is God of War 3 Remastered. Although a bit old, this hack and slash game is a classic. Players assume the role of the god-killer Kratos as he hunt down the gods of Olympus.
Over the last few months, the new God of War game has been generating much interest. Some pundits believe that it might get a late-2017 release while others say it will not see the light of day until 2018. Be that as it may, including the third iteration of the game in the list will surely generate more buzz for the title.
Other popular picks are Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag and Assassin’s Creed: Chronicles, with more emphasis on the latter. Although Black Flag might be stretching it too much, Chronicles seem like a good title to start with.
Assassin’s Creed: Chronicles, unlike the main series, is an action-adventure platformer-type of game. The game is played in a 2.5D side-scrolling world with an art style that is inspired by traditional paintings. At the moment, the title has three entries namely, China, India, and Russia. The latter game was just released last February 2016.
Anther AAA game title for the PS4 is Unravel. The title is a puzzle-platformed developed by a team of Swedish developers. The EA published game received mixed and favorable reviews from critics not only on the PS4 but also on the Xbox One and PC.
The game focuses on Yarny, the protagonist of the game, as he goes through a series of puzzles. Unravel also features a unique storyline as well as an awesome soundtrack and game visuals.
For the PS3, Tekken 6 is a pretty good title to start with. The game is definitely old enough to be included by Sony in its free games lineup, yet it still is a very good fighting simulator. If included, players are sure to have countless hours of fun bashing each other out with different characters in the game. Furthermore, having it in the PS Plus lineup for June will surely generate more hype on the upcoming Tekken 7 title that is releasing in the same month.
One good indie game title for the PS Vita is Axiom Verge. This game was originally released for the PS4 back in 2015. Axiom Verge is a side-scroller action-adventure game developed by Thomas Haps Games. The title features unique original soundtracks and a very creative gameplay reminiscent of the bygone eras. It has received high praises from game critics across the board. Having this in the line up, especially as a cross-buy, will definitely get PS Plus subscribers excited even more.
