Princess Mononoke English Dub in Theaters; See US Release Date & Details

Studio Ghibli’s blockbuster film Princess Mononoke english dub version is coming back in 2017 for a two-day screening in America. Hayao Miyazaki‘s masterpiece will be having a theatrical screening on January 5 and January 7 in selected theaters across the United States. The comeback will be hosted by GKIDS and Fanthom Events.

The Japanese animated film’s return will be the same day as Miyazaki’s 76th birthday, which is on January 5. Theaters will present the original Japanese version of the film with English subtitles on January 5. On the second day of screening on January 9, theater will show the Princess Mononoke English dubbed version.

Miyazaki’s 1995 music video called “On Your Mark” will also be included in the screening to serve as the event’s special treat. The said music video was not yet released in North America.

Previously, the hosts GKIDS and Fanthom Events screened “Spirited Away” on December 4 and 5. With the previous event’s successful celebration, the hosts chose Princess Mononoke for their next screening. The film is an “undisputed animated triumph”, according to GKIDS President Eric Beckman.

Princess Mononoke’s dubbed version will feature the voices of Billy Bob Thornton, Claire Danes, Minnie Driver, Gillian Anderson and Jada Pinkett-Smith.

What is Iconic About Princess Mononoke?

Hayao Miyazaki also wrote and directed Princess Mononoke (Mononoke-hime) under Studio Ghibli. The film was initially released in Japan on July 1997 and followed by U.S. release on October 1999. The animated film became Japan’s highest-grossing film.

The film’s setting is during the?Muromachi period. It follows the story of a young prince named Ashitaka. The prince journeys across the land to find a cure after a demon, who once was a forest god, curses him.

He comes across a battle between humans and a wolf goddess named Moro. This is when he meets San, a human girl who lives with the wolves. The film focuses on the conflicts of?the human’s abuse of nature. Miyazaki’s gifted hands magnificently delivered nature contradictions.
