?Preacher? Season 2 Confirmed: Expect 13 Episodes More Says AMC

By on

The newest, most twisted, supernatural series from AMC, Preacher, has been renewed for a 13-episode Season 2. AMC is more than eager to spread the word to fans as the network has already considered the new series a success even just five episodes into the first season.

The network announced this week the renewal for an expanded 13-episode second season set to release in 2017. According to the official press release from the network via Blastr, the AMC Studios-Sony Pictures co-production is this year?s No. 2 new series on cable among adults 18-49 and 25-54. It currently boasts an average of 3.3 million viewers per episode.

AMC, SundanceTV and AMC Studios president Charlie Collier said, ?Preacher is a special television program and we?re eager to share with fans the rest of this wild first season and, now, an expanded second season. What Sam, Seth, Evan and the entire creative team have achieved in bringing Garth Ennis? graphic novel to the screen is extraordinary. We look forward to more time with these unforgettable characters be it in Heaven, Hell, Texas or beyond.?

The new comic adaptation from AMC is from Garth Ennis? comic book masterpiece first published in 1995. Many filmmakers have tried and failed to pitch their television adaptation to Ennis but no one succeeded?from the likes of Kevin Smith, Sam Mendes and Mark Steven Johnson. ?But after 20 years, Vanity Fair writes, someone finally got it right. ?

It took the ?perfect storm? that is AMC; executive producers, Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg; and showrunner Sam Catlin to finally summon the mysteriously divine and twisted world of Garth Ennis? work into the small screen. Ennis strongly approved saying, ?What they?ve added has not just compensated for what they?ve taken out, but it has quite shocked me.?

Based on the popular cult comic book franchise of the same name, Preacher is a supernatural and darkly comedic drama that follows a Texas preacher named Jesse Custer who is inhabited by a mysterious entity called Genesis that gives him the power to make people do whatever he commands. Once this power attracts the attention of two mysterious angels, Fiore and DeBlanc; Jesse, his badass ex-girlfriend Tulip, and an Irish vampire named Cassidy are thrust into a crazy world populated by a cast of characters from Heaven, Hell and everywhere in between.

Catch Preacher, Sundays, 9/8c on AMC.
