Pokemon Celebrates Largest Debut in the History of Franchise
In other Pokemon news, Pokemon Sun and Pokemon: Moon had the biggest launch in franchise history. It sold 8 percent more units than the best-selling combination of Pokemon in the past. These are Pokemon: White and Pokemon: Black. This despite having 19 days lesser in the market during the month.
Pokemon GO went mobile in the summer which pumped up its dormant fan base. The Pokeplayers headed out and bought 3DS handhelds in order to purchase Sun and Moon. Nintendo then confirmed this was the quickest selling game ever in the franchise’s near two decade history. Now, the NPD is showing just how big a spike Pikachu is seeing. The good news is, this helped the 3DS sales overall.
According to venturebeat.com, Nintendo 3DS experienced the highest monthly physical software purchases in the platform’s history. They were 1 percent higher than the previous high on December 2014.
However, this isn’t all about the pocket monsters. On the other hand, Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare was also launched in November. It would have topped the list if you don’t combine the Pokemon Sun and Moon into one game. Activision’s military shooter got a boost revenue wise thanks to Activision’s bundling of Modern Warfare Remastered in a more costly collector’s version of Infinite Warfare. In spite of that, Battlefield, Call of Duty and Pokemon represent a decline from the top three back in 2015.
