Pokemon GO Updates: List Of All Changes In Latest Patch By Niantic

Niantic Labs just released its first major update to its popular augmented reality game Pokemon GO and latest update brings several new features to the game besides removing some old ones. Both the Android and iOS versions of the app have been updated with version 0.31.0 for Android and 1.1.0 for iOS.

The fans of the popular game are real angry over the latest update and have posted negative reviews for the game in the past few days while many others have altogether removed the app from their mobile devices.

So what?s the fuss about the latest update for the app that brought invited so much ire from the fans?

Avatar Customization

The latest update now allows you to customise your character after the initial character creation process. Hit your trainer icon in the bottom left hand corner and you’ll notice there’s a new “burger” icon on the bottom right. Tap that and you’ll be given the option to view your trainer journal, or to customise your character. It is however still limited to changing skin, hair and eye colour, along with the colours of your clothing, cap, rucksack and shoes.

Step-tracker removed

The developers have removed Pok?mon step tracker in new update. The three tiered footstep system that showed you the proximity of nearby Pok?mon ? one paw for fairly close, two paws for a little further away, and three pawprints for the furthest away. However, the function was rather buggy but instead of solving the problem Niantic decided to do away with this altogether.

Pokevision and third party trackers removed

The update has also removed several of the third party Pokemon tracking websites making it difficult for players to track the monsters. The move has been too disapproved by fans but developers consider it essentially as cheating in the game. The developers have now clarified that third party apps consume a lot of their server resources and in order to expand the game further into the world, the services have been shut down.


With several dangerous accidents linked to the game, it now presents you with some health and safety notes before you start playing. The warnings range from ?don?t Pok?mon Go and drive?, ?don’t trespass?, ?Remember to stay alert? and ?don’t go to dangerous places?.

Scanning Radius

As a part of health concern, the scanning radius has been decreased from around 100 metres to 70 metres. This means in order to scan more Pokemons, gamers will have to get closer to the monsters. The move is aimed to prevent people from playing Pokemon Go while driving.

Transfer Button Moved

Niantic has now moved the Transfer button to a new menu located at the bottom right of the Pok?mon page. Tap the “burger” menu in the bottom right hand corner to to favourite or transfer the selected Pok?mon, just as before.

Battery Saver on iOS gone

The battery saver option for Apple? iPhones has been removed. However, lately developers confirmed that this function would be returning to iOS users soon enough in a new fix.

The new update besides refreshes the UI with some noticeable graphical changes in new version. The full changelog is below:

  • Refined certain Gym animations
  • Improved memory issues
  • Removed footprints of nearby Pok?mon
  • Modified battle damage calculation
  • Various bug fixes during wild Pok?mon encounter
  • Updates to the Pok?mon details screen
  • Updated achievement medal images
  • Fixed issues with displaying certain map features
  • Minor text fixes
