There was a Pokemon GO update that recently came out and it seemingly did nothing new for the mobile game. No additional features were found nor were there any new items for sale, so it seemed like a minor update. However, it seems like the update did have a purpose, as a number of tracker apps no longer work.

Seems like Niantic rushed this update out to stop any remaining tracker apps, though we’ll see how long that lasts. This was noticed by Reddit users who were wondering what exactly was new in the mobile game’s update. That being said, it’s understandable for Niantic to do this, since they made it easier to find Pokemon in-game.

Lack of Trackers

Despite fans looking forward to any future Pokemon GO update, the game itself has lost some steam in recent years. The game’s drop in popularity also led to some tracker apps disappearing, since players were dropping the game. Admittedly, the game has gone through a resurgence as of late, thanks to the addition of 80 new Pokemon.

Few tracker apps are around and it seems like Niantic has put the nail in the coffin with this update. More tracker apps could still pop up, but fans can expect Niantic to eventually take care of them, so it might not be worth the download. Niantic has already made it easier to catch Pokemon, so these apps might go the way of the Dodo.

No More Trackers?

With this Pokemon GO update blocking any of the current tracker apps, it seems like Niantic wants them all gone. It seems like the company wants players to share with each other the Pokemon they find, which is part of the experience. That being said, as long as the game has fans, there will always be tracker apps that will be made for the game.

Currently, fans are waiting for the announcement of the next major update, which will supposedly overhaul gym battles. The last major update added 80 Pokemon from Gen 2, which got plenty of praise from fans of the game. Players are also hoping to see a PVP option added soon, along with a breeding feature for baby Pokemon.

Pokemon GO is available now on iOS and Android devices as a free download, so everyone can play it. While the game is free, there are certain items that can be bought with real money, like Poke’ Ball bundles.
