After the long wait, players finally have the chance to get more Pokemon as the virtual ones that roam our world will be further expanded with gen 2. Niantic is promising 80 more gen 2 Pokemon, which is a lot of new creatures to catch. Here are some of the things to expect in Pokemon GO gen 2.
Region Exclusive Pokemon
When Pokemon GO launched, fans were surprised to see that some Pokemon are exclusive to some regions. The only way to catch the region-locked Pokemon was through eggs. The exclusive Pokemon include Tauros, Kangaskhan, Farfetch’d, and Mr. Mime. When the Pokemon GO gen 2 Pokemon arrives, there might be some region-locked Pokemon as well.
One of the most mysterious Pokemon in gen 2 are the Unown. Though it’s only one specie, players might encounter the 28 forms of Unown in Pokemon GO gen 2. The forms of Unown are based on the alphabet and the signs “?” and “!.” Completionists might have a tough time in collecting the forms of Unown, and getting all of them is definitely an achievement.
Legendary And Mythical Pokemon
There are 80 new Pokemon in the game; add the nine Baby Pokemon made available last December and it totals to 89. There are 100 Pokemon in gen 2 and we’ve yet to know who’ll be missing in the first outing of the next wave of Pokemon. What’s certain now though is that we won’t be getting the Legendary and Mythical Pokemon just yet.
Gen 2’s Legendary and Mythical Pokemon are Entei, Suicine, Raikou, Lugia, Ho-oh, and Celebi. For now, Niantic has even yet to release the gen 1 Legendary and Mythical Pokemon. These Pokemon might come in the global event that Niantic CEO John Hanke teased recently.
Gen 1 Phasing Out?
Although unlikely, there’s a chance that Niantic might phase out some gen 1 Pokemon to make room for gen 2. Unlocking both gen 1 and gen 2 Pokemon in our maps isn’t a good move as it’ll be hard to complete the Pokedex if there are a variety of Pokemon to catch.
There’s a reason why not all Pokemon are available in each entry of the RPG series. It’s because it’ll be hard to catch the new gen of Pokemon if all the past gen creatures are still out and about. We’ve yet to know what Niantic is planning with the launch of gen 2, but we can assure that there’ll be a new system for it.
