Niantic’s Pokemon GO is in for a major change as the developer is set to add quite the feature pretty soon. The next set of features for the augmented reality title are none of other than the Gym Rework and the Raids mechanic, both of which look pretty exciting. New pictures and videos of the Pokemon GO Raids and Gym Rework has also began surfacing online.
Redditor myrongainsmic shares a few images from Famitsu that shows off what players could be seeing when the Pokemon GO Raids and Gym rework update comes. There are a ton of new screenshots of the update at work and players are more than excited to get the new features already as aside from a new feature, players are set to get a new way to nab some amazing rewards.
The new screenshots reveal some of the coming features in Pokemon GO which include new Rare Candies, new TMs and many more. We also get to see the Gym Badges coming to Pokemon GO. Niantic also recently detailed how the new features will work over at their website.
According to Niantic, “a Raid Battle is a cooperative gameplay experience that encourages you to work with other Trainers to defeat an extremely powerful Pokémon known as the Raid Boss. Before a Raid Battle begins, a large Egg will appear atop the Gym. When the countdown above the Egg reaches zero, the Raid Boss will be revealed.”
Contrary to many speculations before, Legendary Pokemon won’t serve as Raid Bosses. Raid Bosses are just the Pokemon already available in the game but are more powerful than the others. There will be 5 tiers of difficulty for the Raid Bosses and players can work together to oust the Raid Pokemon.
Before being able to join in a Raid, players will first need to get a Raid Pass that they can receive once per day by visiting a Gym. Alternatively, players can buy a Premium Raid Pass at the in-game shop also.
Raid Battles are different from the typical battles players have seen before. Up to 20 players can participate in a Raid Battle and they’ll have to defeat the boss within 5 minutes. Players can retreat temporarily to heal their Pokemon and then join in on the battle again.
Certain media outlets also shared some gameplay videos of the raids feature. Courtesy of Pokemon GO Hub and Eurogamer, you can catch a glimpse of the new feature in the videos below.
No exact release date has been pegged for the update but Niantic notes that it’s coming very soon. Since Gyms are temporarily disabled now, then the update will come pretty soon.
