The hype about the Pokemon GO Easter event grows by the day. Given the fact that Niantic has celebrated most major holidays in the game over the past few months, it’s a logical assumption that the egg-centric event is underway. However, the publisher has not said anything about it so far.
Based on the game’s history, if Niantic is celebrating Easter, players should’ve already received an announcement by now. We can recall that Niantic announced the Pokemon GO Halloween event on Oct. 24– a week before the official celebration– and launched it on Oct. 26. If Niantic were to follow the same timeline, the announcement for the Easter event should’ve come Sunday, April 9. However, there is still no word about it as of this writing.
Several players suggested it’s not happening simply because Easter is a Christian holiday. Although Niantic has already celebrated one before when they launched a Christmas event. Sure, it did not use the term “Christmas,” but it used imagery of the holiday in the game like spawning the Santa hat-wearing Pikachu.
More importantly, though, it may have something to do with Niantic’s move toward releasing big changes for the game. After winning the Best Mobile and Handheld Game at the BAFTAs recently, Niantic said in a Pokemon GO post that they’re just getting started with the game.
“We’re still at the beginning of the journey and there’s a lot more to come,” the publisher wrote. “With spring arriving in the northern hemisphere, players can look forward to all-new cooperative social gameplay experiences in Pokemon GO that will give Trainers new and exciting reasons to get back into the sunshine.”
Pokemon GO Big Update Coming Soon
According to Express, the news complements the speculations circulating in the rumor mill recently about a major Teams revamp. Niantic is reportedly working on a big Pokemon GO update. This will see a big change in the role Teams play alongside some new gameplay features. Assuming this is correct, the game’s map appearance will be redesigned with places will be highlighted in the color of a certain team that dominates its surrounding Gym.
There would be share links over distances with other held Gyms as well, which the site says could feed into the next big feature. Apart from those, Team missions are also expected to get some tweaks. This is tipped to pave the way for the release of the first Legendary Pokemon into the game, but there are no available details yet as to how Niantic will do this.
So, Is the Pokemon GO Easter Event Cancelled?
It’s also unclear as to when exactly they will seed this big update but we’re guessing it’s not coming anytime soon. It’s been roughly two months since Gen. 2 and we see no definite reason why Niantic would release a new one instead of a much-hyped Easter event.
The publisher already skipped April Fools’, so many are expecting to celebrate this week’s holiday. In fact, there are already predictions as to what may come in the game this Sunday. Among them are half-distance eggs, increased egg-like Pokemon spawn rate, increased Lucky Egg drop rate, Shiny Pokemon, and free incubators. It wouldn’t make sense if Niantic would skip this opportunity.
Then again, we don’t really know for sure what’s exactly up Niantic’s sleeve. So, until the company gives an announcement, we advise readers to sit tight and take this with a grain of salt. We’ll be sure to update you here on TheBitBag once they do. Stay tuned!
