Pokemon Day: Schedule, Special Features & Everything We Know So Far

By on

February is indeed a busy month for Niantic. After their Valentine’s event almost two weeks ago, the developer of Pokemon GO launched the Generation 2 creatures in the game. But, it will not stop there. Niantic is also organizing an event called “Pokemon Day.” Here are some key information you need to know.

Pokemon Day Schedule

According to the announcement on the Pokemon website, the event will take place on February 27 at 1 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. For those who are wondering why Niantic scheduled it on that day, it is to celebrate the 21st anniversary of the Pokemon franchise.

Back in 1996, the very first Pokemon games, Pocket Monsters Aka and Pocket Monsters Midori, hit the stores in Japan. Two years after the initial release, the games reached North America on September 28, 1998 as Pokemon Red and Pokemon Blue. Now the upcoming event is not going to be the first Pokemon Day. Although last year’s event was much bigger, this year is still going to be interesting.

Pokemon GO Celebrating Pokemon Day

As part of the celebration, Niantic is going to release a special edition Pikachu in the game. According to Heavy, every Pikachu that trainers will encounter on that day will be wearing festive hats. Although photos of the mouse-Pokemon and its hat is not yet available, still, the announcement should be enough to capture the interest of gamers.

However, it is not clear whether or not the hat will stay once Pikachu evolves into Raichu. But it can be recalled that back in the Christmas event, Pikachu’s Santa hat stayed even after the transformation, so there is a possibility that it would still be the case in the upcoming Pokemon Day.

Now, keep in mind that even after Pokemon Day, Pikachu will still have festive hats until March 6, so be sure to grab the opportunity to catch your very own special edition of the mouse-Pokemon. Aside from the special Pikachu on Pokemon GO, there will also be new Pokemon Figures to be released online. A Pokemon movie marathon will also be available on Pokemon TV on February 27.

There you have it! Some of the key details you need to know about the Pokemon Day both on Pokemon GO and Pokemon shops.  Are you excited for the upcoming event? Share your thoughts in the comments section below.
