I just received an update from PlayXpert and I like what I see. PC gamers are always having to sign up or create multiple accounts to game with their buddies online when playing a PC game. The time is upon us for a do it all, connect it all and voice for all software application for Windows PC gamers. Rejoice, it’s PlayXpert time. I’ve been testing out this product for a while now and to be quite honest, most of the time it crashed or didn’t work at all until now.
PlayXpert allows you to chat via voice and/or text over “ANY”, I repeat “ANY” pc game you plan on playing. The trick is, you run this program in the background so you’ll always have a connection to your friends, programs and even a web browser right on your screen with out the need to leave the game. For instance your playing an MMORPG with your buddies they send you a text message though PX, you get a pop up (XBL like) box and you reply right in game, the same goes for a voice chat invite, it all just works.
With you still running the game your buddy asks you to check out a website, normally you would need to either log off the game or minimize your game screen with the ALT+TAB combo, but not anymore…! You can now just click the floating dash icons or your preferred key combination and a web browser opens up right on screen while your game screen is not effected in any way. This is something that needs to be seen to be fully appreciated. MMO gamers know this to be a pain in the ass when gaming long hours into the night and you don’t want to pull your self from the game, but won’t mind pulling up a web site real quick for tips, or support from a buddy.
A few more cool features are the function for using your AIM, GOOGLE TALK, XFIRE and many more clients right from within the PX overlay while you play any game online or off. Personally to me, an avid PC gamer and skeptical person in general, it’s the first ever step closer to getting an “XBL like” gaming platform for the PC gamer. I love it and I will not go back to PC gaming with out it. My friends will need to download and setup this FREE software if they want to chat with me. Well actually I take that back, since I can chat via Xfire, Aim and Google Talk right from PX with out the need to have those native apps running.

Industry first overlay technology to natively support DirectX10 games
SANDPOINT, ID – September 9, 2009 – Playxpert, the provider of next-generation in-game community management tools, today announced support for Windows® 7 32-bit and 64-bit operating system environments. Support for Windows 7 is complemented by support for Vista 32-bit and 64-bit as well as Windows XP and 2000. In addition, Playxpert has announced support for Native DX10 games within its overlay subsystem.
The new support allows games to be played to their full potential while also unleashing the power of third party overlay widgets that bring communication and tools to gamers. The Playxpert in-game operating system works across any PC game that uses DirectX 8, 9, or 10. Combining the Playxpert in-game overlay platform with its extensible widget architecture, Playxpert is poised to be a standard overlay system for players because it brings together the tools that players use – and overlays them into the games that they play.
“Over half of our user community has already upgraded to 64-bit Vista and we’re already seeing early adoption to Windows 7,” said Charles Manning, CEO of Playxpert. “There are significant advancements in DX10 that most game studios are already taking advantage of. Because our TrueOverlay system works at the lowest level of DX, our technology is the only solution that can provide in-game overlay on native DX10 games today.”
Among various firsts for the company, Playxpert is the first and only company to provide in-game overlay at the command stream level of DirectX. This innovation means that users don’t have frame-rate impacts when using the Playxpert system and it offers universal cross-game support. Playxpert is now also the first and only company to natively support DX10. Unlike other in-game overlay tools, Playxpert will not require users to downgrade their runtime configuration for their favorite DX10 games to play in DX9.

Another announcement from PX was that SONY Online Entertainment has been integrated into PX:
PLAYXPERT, the provider of next-generation in-game community management tools, announced today it has developed a unique Chat Gateway integrated with Sony Online Entertainment’s (SOE) Station Friends chat network that allows any PLAYXPERT user to text-chat with the native chat systems on SOE’s PC games. Using this gateway, PLAYXPERT users can connect with friends just like they can when they’re playing the game using their characters’ Friends lists. This innovation allows users who play non-SOE games to stay connected with their friends playing SOE games and vice versa.
“Today’s announcement is another example of our pursuit to enable gamers to remain connected and stay in game,” said Charles Manning, CEO of PLAYXPERT. “Just like our chat support for Google Talk, Yahoo Instant Messenger, and Xfire, our support for Station Friends allows PLAYXPERT users to stay connected to their friends no matter what game they play.”
John Smedley, President of Sony Online Entertainment, said, “Gamers today typically play several games and as a result maintain what are traditionally separate and distinct communities across those games. We feel strongly about empowering our players using our Station Friends chat network to remain connected to their other gaming communities and friends even when they are outside of those games. PLAYXPERT has shown its ability to integrate its chat gateway with the Station Friends chat network to enable text chat between SOE games and other games.”
Using PLAYXPERT, players will be able to add friends across numerous games or game worlds including EverQuest®, EverQuest® II, and PlanetSide®, and can auto-discover their game specific friends list and have it appear in the PLAYXPERT Chat Messenger roster.
OK, so what are my fellow PC gamers waiting for, this is what we have all been waiting for, well at least those of us that are social and love gaming online with our buddies. Peace.!
If you do try out the PlayXpert software you can add me to your friends list. My name is thesocialgamer all one word and lower case. See you online.
