The Playstation VR was formally announced by Sony last Oct. 13. After months of teasing its loyal fanbase, the gaming company unveiled the first ever virtual reality headset for the Playstation console. Along with the release, the company also announced a series of games and software support that are under development for the headset.
Those who are considering the idea of getting the Playstation VR need not look further for any reasons. Here is a list of reasons why you should get the Playstation VR for your Playstation 4.
In comparison to mainstream VR hardware like the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive, the Playstation VR is the cheapest. Even with the needed accessories like the Playstation Camera and Move Controller, the Playstation VR is at least $200 cheaper than the Oculus Rift.
Some bundles cost around $500, which includes the complete accessories as well as a game or two. Meanwhile, those who already own the Playstation Camera and the Move Controller will only need to shell out $400.
The Playstation VR is designed to work with the Playstation 4 out-of-the-box. Meaning, there will be no need to install new hardware like new processor or graphics card. When connected to the console, it just works. Users need not even worry about hardware compatibility issues that are very common with PC-based VR systems.
As mentioned above, the Playstation VR was made specifically for the Playstation 4. That means, no matter what game users throw at it, they will be able to play it without any hitch at all. Furthermore, the headset is also compatible with the new Playstation 4 Pro console. Just like the older Playstation 4, the VR headset is also plug-and-play.
Another thing worth mentioning is Sony?s decision to re-use older products with the Playstation VR. The Playstation Camera which was released for the Playstation 4 in 2014 only received some minor aesthetic changes. Nevertheless, it is still the same camera hardware albeit in a new package. This is a plus for console gamers who already own the device as they need not purchase a new one for the Playstation VR.
So far, there are around 30 games that are available for the Playstation VR. From games featuring fighting robots to space dogfights, Sony made sure that gamers will have enough to choose from. Furthermore, Sony is also ushering the development of more than 50 games for the platform. Some of which are due to release early next year.
