Are European PlayStation Plus subscribers getting a new free game this month? When this August?s Instant Game Collection was revealed, PlayStation gamers were quick to point out that PS Plus subscribers in Europe was getting the short end of the stick. This is because one of the titles on the PlayStation Plus Free Games list for August — a rhythm-based indie for the PS3 called Retro/Grade — had already appeared on PS Plus Europe before.
Will Sony Retroactively Replace Retro/Grade on Playstation Plus?
Throughout the entire history of the Instant Game Collection, no game has ever appeared on its region?s list more than once. This has prompted some irate fans to demand that Sony replace Retro/Grade with a different title.
?I want to know what you are going to do about Retro/Grade. It has already been free with plus back in 2012, and games are not supposed to be repeated,? said commenter evilwitch83 on the?European PlayStation blog.
Another named Witcher70 even brought up how double-dipping Retro/Grade may violate some anti-consumer laws. ?A comment about Retro/Grade would be nice? After all we paid for Retro/Grade TWICE?. Is that even legal?!? he says.
Playstation Europe?s Rhys Sutheran has attempted to quell the uproar, telling fans, ?Hi everyone. We?re keenly aware that you?ve had a lot to say regarding PS Plus this month ? we?ve read all the comments and have passed your feedback directly to the PS Plus team.?
Both the decision to repeat Retro/Grade and any future move regarding its replacement are firsts for the PS Plus service, which has been operating since 2010. It?s still early in the month, so there is plenty of time for Sony to find a suitable replacement.
Hopefully, this was just a one-time oversight. We?d hate to see Sony start repeating PlayStation Plus Free Games on the PlayStation 4 as well.
