Sony has yet to reveal the PlayStation Plus free games April 2017 lineup, but Microsoft is giving them some heavy competition. Xbox One owners will be getting Ryse, Walking Dead Season Two, Darksiders and Assassin’s Creed: Revelations this month. It’s not yet known what Sony has up their sleeves, but they better have some quality titles lined up.

Major Nelson confirmed the four big games for April, which should please fans that bought Microsoft’s current-gen console. Ryse is an Xbox One exclusive and one of the console’s launch titles, so fans can finally check that one out. Sony hasn’t really given fans much PlayStation 4 exclusives, outside of titles like Little Big Planet 3, which was liked to be fair.

Business As Usual?

This isn’t the first time Microsoft has released AAA titles for their Xbox Games with Gold program and it won’t be the last. If history is any indication, Sony’s PlayStation Plus free games April 2017 lineup will likely have the usual indie titles. Admittedly, Sony has broken tradition a few times and have made a few mainstream titles free like NBA 2K16.

Until we see what Sony has planned, it’s too early to judge which company will win the “free wars” for the month. Microsoft almost always win these, though the company is still lacking in neat Xbox One exclusives, so Sony has that. Halo Wars 2 isn’t a bad title by any means, but releasing it with Breath of the Wild and Horizon Zero Dawn is sad.

Wait And See

Sony will eventually reveal their PlayStation Plus free games April 2017 lineup, so we will have to wait before assuming Microsoft has won again. It will be hard for Sony to compete with this month’s Xbox Games with Gold, so the company better get some solid games. Even if they get an indie game or two, it better be of quality or some fans will complain.

With games like Ryse and Darksiders, Sony should consider finally bringing some of their early exclusives as free games. Gamers have been begging for Knack to be a free game for PS Plus subscribers, especially since a sequel was announced. Killzone Shadow Fall has also been requested by some, so we’ll see if that game eventually becomes a PS Plus free game.

Xbox One owners can get Ryse and Darksiders on April 1. Meanwhile, The Walking Dead Season Two and Assassin’s Creed: Revelations can be downloaded for free on April 16.
