Bluehole Studio’s Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds has armors that help players survive against gunfire. This game’s armor system has three levels of armor types which have different damage reduction and durability scaling. Here are some tips on how armors work in Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds..

Armor and Hit System

Currently, Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds have helmets and vests that reduce damage to a particular part of the player’s body. Obviously, helmets protects a character’s head and the vests protects the character’s chest area. Usually, video game armors just adds a general defensive stat boost on every piece of armor they wear.

Armors in the game only protect the area it covers. Getting shot or hit on the arm or legs won’t trigger your armor’s defense reduction. Even though the armors don’t grant a general defense boost, they’re effective in defending their respective body part coverage.

Defense Reductions

Both helmets and arms have three levels of defense reduction quality of the current Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds build. These defense reduction stats allow the player to survive fights longer or just avoid being incapacitated with a single shot from a powerful gun. According to akadiablo2213’s video, these are the values of defense reduction per armor level:

  • Level 1 – 30% reduction
  • Level 2 – 40% reduction
  • Level 3 – 55% reduction

Durability Scaling

Durability scaling in Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds doesn’t exist as low durability helmets and vests have the same damage reduction as healthy ones. Usually, damaged equipment become less effective in protecting the player and mostly implemented as a realism oversight for any game. This system means that it’s efficient to use damaged armors until they break. Keep in mind that armors only lose durability on each defense reduction trigger for effective armor use.

Effective Armors

Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds approach to the armor system makes players value any helmets and vests they can find. Their reliability at any durability and their overall lifesaving damage reductions are always appreciated if available. Since the game is a 100-man Battle Royale-style PvP game in a small open world area, literally anything that helps any player survive helps a lot.

How to Deal With Armors

Overall, players wearing good armor are tough to kill but aren’t immortal. Opt to use a powerful gun and shoot them in the legs or arms to bypass their damage reduction stats. Alternatively, you can try using grenades if you corner them at a tight spot. Lastly, you can opt to fight toe-to-toe if you have armor and weaponry yourself.
