Side-scrolling game Phantom Breaker: Battle Grounds receives a July 29 release date for PS Vita

Enjoying a considerable following on Xbox Live, developer 5PB?announces the arrival of side-scrolling beat-em-up game Phantom Breaker: Battle Grounds on the PlayStation Network (PSN) for the PS Vita handheld console. It is slated for a July 29 release.

Available on Xbox Live Arcade (XBLA) since February last year, Phantom Breaker: Battle Grounds is the spin-off version of 5PB?s 2D game Phantom Breaker and is described as a ?combination of 8-bit brawler games? retro aesthetics and modern 3D technology.?

The game was noted for its four-player co-op modes, good combo system, several unlockable characters and multiple modes where players can earn XP and level up their characters. The upcoming title will also introduce characters from Phantom Breaker including Waka, Mikoto, Yuzuha, and Itsuki. It will also offer a DLC that will feature the character named Makise Kurisu from 5PB?s popular visual novel called ?Steins;Gate.?

As promised by the developer, each of the game?s characters will have their own distinct styles and signature moves. Unlike Phantom Breaker, which feature more proportionally accurate characters, the ones present in Battle Grounds are drawn in ?chibi? form or anime-style.

Her are the key features of Phantom Breaker: Battle Grounds:

  • Combines the best 8-bit retro aesthetics with modern 3D technology.
  • 4 different modes of play: Story, Arcade, Co-op and Battleground.
  • Fight as Itsuki, Yuzuha, Waka, and Mikoto from Phantom Breaker, each with their own signature moves and attacks.
  • Play as Makise Kurisu from popular anime and game series Steins;Gate, available as DLC.
  • Team up with up to 3 of your friends in Co-Op Mode or see who’s the greatest warrior in Battleground Mode.
  • Earn experience as you battle through the enemy horde to unlock devastating new skills and build up your attack strength, defense, and speed.
  • Battle against ginormous, screen-filling enemies!?

Phantom Breaker: Battle Grounds will be available in Europe (where PSN applies) for ? 10 and in North & South America for $ 12. Meanwhile, the Makise Kurisu DLC will retail for ?5 in Europe and $ 6 in the Americas.
