Persona 5’s confidant system works similar to the previous entries’ Social Link system. Spending time with these NPCs will allow players to explore each confidant’s story. Aside from additional backstories, players also gain benefits in Persona fusions. The official site has already identified most of the confidants, save for a few Arcana.
Persona 5 Confidants
Like the previous entries, players will be able to interact people from different walks of life in Persona 5. Interacting with these people may seem arbitrary and optional, but they actually improve your Persona fusions in the Velvet Room. Extra experience and unlocking the Arcana’s ultimate Persona were the benefits of maxing out Social Links. In Persona 5, the Confidants will unlock some extra services to help you out in your playthrough.
The official Persona 5 site has listed all Confidants available in the game. Players will eventually meet these characters and unlock their Persona 5 Confidant link, which will grant some benefits to the player. Here are all the listed Confidants so far and their respective Arcana’s:
- V: Hierophant – Sojiro Sakura
- X: The Wheel of Fortune – Chihaya Mifune
- XII: The Hanged Man – Munehisa Iwai
- XIII: Death – Tae Takemi
- XIV: Temperance – Sadayo Kawakami
- XV: The Devil – Ichiko Ohya
- XVII: Strength – Hifumi Togo
- XVI: The Tower – Shinya Oda
- XVIII: The Moon – Yuuki Mishima
- XIX(XVIIII): The Sun – Toranosuke Yoshida
Like older titles, the player’s party members are also Confidants. Players can opt to max out these confidants first as they’ll have some extra abilities in battle depending on their relationship to the player. Here are the list of Arcanas among the known allies according to the trailers.
- VII: Chariot – Ryuji Sakamoto
- VI: Lovers – Ann Takamaki
- I: Magician – Morgana
- IV: Emperor – Yusuke Kitagawa
- II: Priestess – Makoto Nijima
- IX: Hermit – Futaba Sakura
- III: Haru Okumura – Empress
Enjoy the Story
Each Confidant has a story to tell and it’s up to the player to spend time with them to know them more. Since these characters have unique personalities, the player will enjoy stories in different perspectives in their life and other factors that build up their current identity. Each major event during their interactions with the player character will mostly mean that the Confidant link has leveled up.
First Playthrough Dilemma
However, the first playthrough might not be enough to max out each of the Confidant links. The first playthrough can be punishing as the players will have to balance doing actions that can only be done at a certain time and date. However, the second playthrough may already have granted access to strong equipment, Personas, and other personality stats to cruise on every character interaction available.
