Pepsi steps in the smartphone market with launch of its first phone in China. Pepsi?s flagship phone named Pepsi Phone P1 has initially been launched at $110 in China through crow funding website JD Finance. The Pepsi P1 phone is manufactured by Shenzhen based Scooby Communication Equipment Company. Pepsi had announced it plans to launch the phone just last month.
The phone has pretty awesome specs despite being a budget phone. According to TechRadar?Pepsi P1 phone features 5.5 inch curved 2.5D display with 1080p Full HD resolution. The phone is powered by a octa-core MediaTek M6592 processor with 1.7Ghz speed and Mali 450-MP4 GPU. This will be accompanied by 2GB RAM and 16GB of internal storage.?The Pepsi P1 phone includes 13MP rear camera with f/2.0 aperture and 1/3.06-inch lens as well as 5MP front camera. The smart phone also features a finger print scanner located beneath the rear camera. The phone allows for storage expansion up to 64GB with Micro SD slot that also doubles as slot for SIM as well, so user has to let go of the extra SIM to avail external storage.?The sleek designed phone has premium look with a uni metal aluminum body finish that also features the signature logo of the company. The phone is run on customized Pepsi themed Dido OS built upon Android 5.1 Lollipop and will be available in Silver, Gold and Blue color options.
The Android based smart phone was initially sold at price as low as $78. According to Times Gazette two tiers of 1000 units each are available selling at $110 and $150 after which the phone will be retailed at $200 in China provided that the project reaches its goal of raising $469950 by December 3rd.
The Engadget says the smart phone will be available in two versions P1 that comes with TD-LTE and TD-SCDMA support for China Mobile and P1s with FDD-LTE and WCDMA support for China Unicom and other worldwide carriers. The phone will be available only in China for now as no announcements regarding its availability in rest of the world have been made.
