Blizzard is obviously devoted to further improve Overwatch as evident by the studio’s multitude of post-launch content. There’s more to come for the shooter as dataminers have revealed that there are going to be some new neat maps in a future Overwatch update. From the look of things, Overwatch agents are going to battle it out outside of Earth as well.
Redditor OverwatchSarah shares her compilation of all the sound bites gathered throughout the game’s PTRs since launch. The sound bites are possibly for stages that are set to come in a future Overwatch update. Till now, these sound bites have yet to come in any of the maps and since it has been quite a while since their discovery, players are speculating that these maps will come soon.
Although we’ve yet to officially know where the next maps are set, the sound bites tease that a future Overwatch update will add a map set in space. Players are pointing towards the moon upon hearing the sound bites as Overwatch’s Winston lived on the moon before being brought back to Earth.
If this indeed the case, then we could be seeing another in-game event that isn’t Seasonal. The recent Uprising event is an original even from Blizzard and it gave fans a better look at the early days of Overwatch. Seeing as the event was a huge success, it’s likely that Blizzard will create more events like this.
According to the game’s lore, Winston grew up in the Horizon Lunar Colony and he stayed there until he was forced to escape when other gorillas led an uprising against the humans. This alone is a good premise to provide another horde mode PVE event similar to Insurrection.
Aside from the space map, OverwatchSara is also speculating that another map will be released and it will be set underwater based on the datamined sound bites.
Earlier last week, Blizzard’s Jeff Kaplan took to the game’s forum to talk about future maps in the works which further tease that new maps are coming soon. “We currently have 3 maps in development, all past the initial playtesting phase that are “standard” maps (QP/Comp). While something could always change, all 3 of those are looking likely for a release this year,” said Kaplan.
Moreover, Kaplan talked about 3 non-standard maps that aren’t for quick play or competition. These could be maps for events and limited time game modes.
