An Overwatch photo showing a potential leak about customizable weapon skins has been circulating in the community as of late. Apparently, the picture shows a Reinhardt in his regular skin but wield the golden axe from his Legendary skins. This finding could be an actual Overwatch update leak that’ll be implemented soon on the test servers soon.
Classic Reinhardt With Golden Axe
As seen on the Overwatch subreddit, fans have discussed this specific Reinhardt photo from RejectedShotgun’s video on Youtube. By default, the Classic Reinhardt skin is a combination of his grey armor and a large, gray hammer as his weapon. However, the image shows him wearing a gold version of his Bloodhardt/Blackhardt axe. Technically, this is impossible on both live and test servers at the moment which make fans believe it is an Overwatch update leak.
Customizable Weapon Skin System
Allowing players to choose weapon skins separately from the character skins will definitely deepen Overwatch’s customization features. Players would mix and match weapons and skins according to their taste to show off more unique looking characters in matches. The system can also be used to make intentionally unfitting skin combinations to look silly in matches.
However, some fans also point out that this image could be edited in some way. ArielleSweetSugar’s thread shows that it’s actually possible to show character skins with different weapon skins through editing the game’s files. This raises a possibility that RejectedShotgun’s picture could be edited just to show off the supposed Overwatch update leak.
Overwatch’s upcoming updates
As of the conclusion of the Overwatch uprising event, the next set of new cosmetic content, in-game event, and new character has yet to be announced. As for officially confirmed content, Overwatch game director Jeff Kaplan said that new legendary skins for Hanzo, Zarya, and Sombra are in development.
Meanwhile, other Overwatch update leaks state that the game will receive its new hero Doomfist and an Overwatch first anniversary event soon. The leaks say that Doomfist will be added on the test servers in a few weeks and may arrive at the same time as the anniversary event. Overwatch was released last year in May 24, and the game will celebrate its anniversary in two weeks from now. Both Blizzard Entertainment and the Overwatch team have yet to announce or hint at a new event this month. Stay updated with more Overwatch news here on The BitBag.
