Blizzard’s Overwatch was on the receiving end of a few criticisms last month because of the somewhat unfair rare cosmetic drop rates in loot boxes. While Blizzard is yet to reveal how they’re planning on addressing the issue, the developer is at least offering the players a chance to get more rewards. This time, Blizzard has introduced an Overwatch Golden Loot Box.
In partnership with Twitch and Amazon Prime, Blizzard is offering a special bonus for players who link their accounts to the two streaming services. For a set time, players who link their accounts to Amazon Prime and Twitch will be getting an Overwatch Golden Loot Box.
“From June 20–August 10, anyone who links their Amazon Prime and Twitch account (as well as all active Twitch Prime members) will be eligible to receive a Golden Loot Box in Overwatch. This promotional in-game loot box contains four random items from our classic collection, including one guaranteed legendary,” says Blizzard in a post.
While this sounds like a pretty neat deal for players who are looking to get more cosmetic items in the game, many are questioning as to whether or not the promo is worth joining. It’s not a free promo, at least to those not subscribed to Amazon Prime.
Subscribing to Amazon Prime requires users to pay either $99 a year or $10.99 per month. Doing so grants access to ad-free streaming of music and movies and several other benefits. It’s a pretty good premium subscription but if one is going to subscribe to it for the Golden Loot Box only, then it’s not worth the extra dollars.
For starters, the Overwatch Golden Loot Box doesn’t even contain any special items. What players will receive in the loot box are the same items they can obtain normally. The only difference this time is that there’s a guaranteed Legendary item in it. However, as revealed on Reddit, there’s still a chance to get a duplicate Legendary item from the Golden Loot Box.
It would’ve been a neat deal if the Golden Loot Box includes items from previous events, but if the content are the regular items only then players shouldn’t bother subscribing to Amazon Prime for it. If players do have Amazon Prime now, then they should at least get the Overwatch Golden Loot Box since it’ll come free of charge.
