Blizzard’s Overwatch will be reaching a new milestone later this month as the game will finally reach its first year anniversary. We can expect Blizzard to celebrate the day with something special, but leaked details reveal that players are in for big surprises on May 23. Here’s everything we know about the Overwatch Anniversary event.
Event Date Details
The event commemorating Overwatch’s first anniversary will possibly begin on either May 16 or May 23. It’s the former date if Blizzard continues their trend of making the event last for three weeks, considering the anniversary event was leaked to end on June 5. It’ll be on May 23 if the event will coincide with the special re-release of the game. As for the event’s start time, Blizzard said on Twitter that they still don’t have specifics yet.
Overwatch Anniversary Loot Boxes And GOTY Edition Leak Online
True Achievements shared an Xbox Store listing that includes special loot boxes tailored to celebrate the game’s first anniversary. At some point later this month, Blizzard is going to begin selling Anniversary Loot Box bundles. No pricing has been announced yet but it seems players can obtain the loot box in bundles of 50.
The loot boxes are going to have major prices inside according to the leak. “Every Loot Box contains up to four cosmetic items, including at least one Anniversary Skin, Spray, Highlight Intro, Emote, Victory Pose, Player Icon, or Voice Line. More than 100 Anniversary goodies are waiting for you!”
Surprisingly, Blizzard will also launch a GOTY edition for the game on May 23. In a separate post by True Achievements, the content of the GOTY edition will include the following content:
- The full game.
- 10 Bonus Loot Boxes with cosmetic goodies for your Overwatch heroes.
- Origin Skins for 5 Overwatch heroes.
- A Baby Winston Pet for adventures in World of WarCraft.
- The Tracer Hero for battling it out in Heroes of the Storm.
- And more!
Doomfist And New Mode?
Considering it was only the Xbox Store that was datamined, there’s still no details if the anniversary event will bring in a new character or a new event/mode. Before the recent leaks though, players have discovered that Blizzard has updated the game’s YouTube channel with a few videos including one about a Cinematic Short, which many speculate to be for Doomfist.
Doomfist is rumored to be the 25th character, though there’s still very little we know of him. Hopefully, the upcoming event finally sees the appearance of Doomfist, along with a PvE mode like Insurrection.
