After the shocking events that transpired in Season 4 of the Orange is the New Black (OITNB), fans of the show are already looking forward to next year?s fifth season to address the giant cliffhanger moment that the show left behind. Litchfield inmates were ready to riot over the death of Poussey Washington and things turned to utter chaos when Daya gets hold of the gun brought in by one of prison?s new security guards.
The season ended right there and fans are now wondering when the new season would return. The good news is that Orange is the New Black Season 5 is already filming and several of the favorite characters are set to return in 2017. Danielle Brooks, who plays Tasha “Taystee” Jefferson in the series, even shared a new photo of her in her Litchfield prison get-up last month.
It’s also safe to assume that Taylor Schilling, Laura Prepon, Uzo Aduba, Kate Mulgrew, Michael Harney and Dascha Polanco, (among others) will be appearing in Season 5, though we don’t have a confirmation yet.
The release date of the show, however, remains elusive as the next season will debut next year yet. Rumors has it that the show will return possibly on June 9, 16 or 23 as Netflix usually releases new shows on Fridays.
Fans can meanwhile, pick up the latest teases and rumors from the dedicated fan base of the OINTB about what may transpire in the next season. The significant news is that Maria is set on the path to be the new prison boss now that Piper has realized the folly of her actions.
?If you’re a boss, you don’t get your hands dirty ever. So [for Maria], it’s like, ‘Oh, damn, I’d like to shoot that guy. Daya, pick that [gun] up. I’m never going to get my hands dirty.’ … [Maria] has no reason to live at this point,? Jessica Pimentel said.
Meanwhile, the future of another character, Lolly remains uncertain. In Season 4, Lolly’s storyline ended with her being dragged off to the psych ward after Healy realizes that she is the one who murdered Aydin, who posed as one of the correctional officer.
Actress Lori Petty, who plays the role of the often comedic conspiracy theorist psycho, hopes that she is called back for Season 5.
?I certainly hope so,? she told The Hollywood Reporter. “I do think we will. I can’t say for sure, but I absolutely think we will. They are just now filming episode one [of season five] and you know how we ended season four. They have a lot to deal with right now! I’m just waiting on the phone call to get back on the plane. I’m sure it will come, but we have 13 episodes and they’ve got a lot to take care of, so we’ll see . . .?
Orange is the New Black returns sometime in the Summer of 2017.
