While OnePlus has yet to officially launch its flagship device for 2017, the company has been generous enough to tease what features exactly should its patrons be expecting from the upcoming OnePlus 5. That’s how we know that the handset will come with a DxO camera and likely a 3.5mm headset jack positioned at the top of the device. More recently, the phone maker hinted what color options it may be considering for its 2017 flagship.
On Monday, OnePlus took to Twitter and Facebook to see what patrons think should be the color options for the OnePlus 3 successor. “What 5hould the color of your next phone be?”, the company asked on social media, leaving an obvious hint – in 5hould – that this is about the OnePlus 5.
It showed off 4 color variants that the OnePlus 5 would potentially have: Black, Gold, Dark Red, and a gradient Blue. The post did not specify whether the flagship will be available in all colors or they’ll just pick one. However, OnePlus would definitely benefit from one or more unusual color schemes, apart from the traditional neutral ones like Black and Gold.
Whether or not they’ll pick the colors based on the people’s replies is unclear either. But with its release just around the corner, it’s likely that the company has already settled on select colors and has just been teasing fans about its impending launch.

OnePlus 5 Release Date
The company has yet to give an exact release date. It’s kind of hard to pinpoint as well because OnePlus hasn’t stuck to a traditional annual release schedule. We can recall it launched the OnePlus 1 in April 2016, the OnePlus 2 in July 2015, and the OnePlus 3 last June, which was then followed by the 3T in November.
We do know that it is confirmed to be coming sometime this summer. With May already coming to an end, our best guess, so far, is that the flagship will be announced at the end of June or in early July.
OnePlus 5 Price & Specs
Sources previously told Android Authority that the Chinese company is using “more costly components” for its 2017 flagship. This move towards the high-end segment would dramatically increase the OnePlus 5 price. If the reports are anything to go by, the next OnePlus handset could cost as much as $650 (roughly £500), a significant step-up from the firm’s last phone, which retailed for £399.
So, what would you get from $650? We’ve rounded up the potential specs below:
- 2.3GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset
- 8GB RAM
- 64GB of in-built storage with Micro SD Slot
- 5.5inch multi-touch display with a 2560×1440 resolution
- 4,000 mAh battery
- 23-megapixel dual rear camera and a 16-megapixel selfie camera
- USB Type-C
- OxygenOS based on Android Nougat
