To most enthusiasts, device performance is a pretty big deal. And the one way to measure how good a certain gadget is, is through benchmarking. That said, there have been numerous instances of the Galaxy S8 appearing on GeekBench showing very decent performance figures. However, while the Galaxy S8 numbers do seem impressive, there is a new challenger in town, the OnePlus 5.
According to SlashLeaks, the OnePlus 5 garnered a single-core score of 1963 points. Compared to the score by the Galaxy S8, the OnePlus device is only down by 15 points. On the other hand, when it comes to multi-core processing, the OnePlus 5 managed to edge out the Galaxy S8 by more than 300 points.
While the Galaxy S8 is ahead on the single-core processing by a minute amount, a difference of 300 points on the multi-core score can mean a lot of things. For one, it means that the OnePlus 5 can squeeze in a bit more computational power when it needs to, especially on core-intensive processes.
Unfortunately, it should be noted that the figures have come from SlashLeaks, a website known for its slightly misguided information about products that are to be released.
A few weeks ago, the website has posted an alleged GeekBench benchmark results for the iPhone 8’s A11 chip. In the said leak, the A11 exhibited superb computational performance in both single and multi-core processing. Almost immediately after getting posted, Primatelabs developer John Poole trashed the leak saying that it is fake and quite possibly Photoshopped.
That being said, this piece of information should also be taken with a grain of salt. Until such time that OnePlus releases its upcoming flagship killer, consider anything coming from the Internet dodgy and questionable.
The OnePlus 5 is set to release sometime in the next couple of months, according to OnePlus. At the moment, the mobile phone is available on pre-order from online websites. GeekBuying and GearBest sells the phone for as low as $450. For more updates on the OnePlus 5, be sure to check us out at TheBitbag.
