When Taylor Swift?s 1989 album came out, speculations flew about the album?s subject. Though it was never confirmed, everybody thought it was about her relationship with One Direction?s Harry Styles.
Taylor did talk about the song ?Out of the Woods? and how the relationship that inspired the song felt very fragile.
“This song is about the fragility and kind of breakable nature of some relationships,” she said when she introduced the preview clip on?Good Morning America. “This was a relationship where I was kind of living day to day, wondering where it was going, if it was going to go anywhere, if it was going to end the next day ? it was a relationship where you kind of never feel like you?re standing on solid ground.”
“And so, you know, I think a lot of relationships can be very solid and that’s kind of what you hope for, for it to be solid and healthy but that’s not always what you get,” she said. “And it doesn’t mean that it’s not special and extraordinary just to have a relationship that’s fragile and somehow meaningful in that fragility,” she also said in an interview with Bustle.
And now that One Direction?s album ?Made in the A.M.? has been released, fans can?t help but notice the many references to 1989?s songs.
Exhibit A: This mash-up proves just how 1D?s ?Perfect? sounds very similar to Taylor?s ?Style? and both songs just happen to be 3:51 long. Also, the lyrics:
Perfect: If you like midnight driving with the windows down
Style: Midnight/ you come and pick me up / no headlights
Exhibit B: 1D?s ?End of Day? is Taylor?s ?Out of the Woods?. Taylor told Rolling Stone that the part of the song that goes ?Remember when you hit the brakes too soon/ Twenty stitches in a hospital room? was inspired by a snowmobile ride with an ex who lost control and wrecked it so badly that both of them had to go to the ER.
?End of Day? has this line: Sure the night was over / I said it?s forever twenty minutes later wound up in the hospital
Exhibit C: 1D?s ?What a Feeling? vs. Taylor?s ?Blank Space?
What a Feeling: What a feeling to be a king beside you
Blank Space: You?re the king / baby I?m your queen
Also, there?s a track on Made in the A.M. called ?Olivia? that happens to be the name of one of Taylor?s beloved cats.
