Anyone still looking for a One Direction reunification may have to give up on their hopes as a Harry Styles solo career looks closer now to becoming a reality. News confirms that the former One Directioner has signed a recording deal as a solo artist.
Billboard reveals that a deal has been struck between Styles and Columbia Records, the same recording company that One Direction is signed with. The news is contrary to earlier reports that claimed Styles was deciding to ?move as far away from 1D as possible? and would end up singing with Universal?s Capitol Records. While there are no details on the deal and when a solo album could come out, it casts yet another cloud of doubt on another One Direction reunion.
This latest development is certainly the culmination of moves by Styles, who in 2015 had four solo songs copyrighted with the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers, according to Billboard. The four songs — ?5378 Miles,” “Already Home,” “Coco” and Endlessly” — have never been performed, and do not include any release dates, but their registration imply that the songs exist ?in a recorded state.?
Billboard also points out that Styles has also signed up last March with Full Stop Management, established by 30-year-old Jeffrey Azoff, son of music industry veteran Irving Azoff. One Direction and its members have been under Modest Management for the entirety of their five years as a band.
Harry Styles has also taken moves towards an acting career, which would certainly limit his time available to work with One Direction, especially now that a solo career is looking more definite. There have been rumors that Styles was in talks to be part of the Teen Wolf cast, with executive producer Jeff Davis reportedly ?working on convincing Styles to join the cast members for the sixth season of Teen Wolf.He did not debunk the rumors stating that the British boy was being wooed for the show.? Styles has also been rumored to be up for the part of Fiyero in the upcoming Wicked movie musical. Styles is also currently involved with Dunkirk, Christopher Nolan?s World War II action-thriller.
